There is a time for Painkilling Relief and a Time to Manage Pain and Recovery.

There is a time for Painkilling Relief and a Time to Manage Pain and Recovery

Some of you may know that I have recently had to have major surgery, a bit of a traumatic time, in both mine and Jacqui’s life , we are grateful to all our family and friends, that have been with us through all this and for the Doctors and Nurses  that were there for me .

Being the patient rather than the therapist, helping others  recover has been odd, as any of my therapist fiends will tell you we are not the best of patients ourselves, I would like to share some of my journey with you in the hope that it can be of  help to others.

I have been  using the Sigma Q technology in my practice for over thirteen years, from early day to where it is today.

During all this time I have witnessed excellent clinical outcomes, patients lifted out of chronic pain from long term trauma related  injuries,

Their depression lifted and fresh hope for quality of life that had eluded them for long periods of time , the joy of seeing them being able to cut down and eventually stop their need for pain killing pharmacological intervention.

For them to  enjoy pain free movement,  seeing them   return to their employment or sport and add value to society, For me it sometimes feels like it is beyond any words in the whole vocabulary.

Being a Neuromuscular Injury  Therapist for 30 years, I have always had the strong desire to study, to achieve greater knowledge of anatomy, physiology and neurology.

I have always felt the need to  further  my skills, so I may enhance good clinical interventions and outcomes for my patients.

Using  techniques in massage, Neuromuscular manipulation, along with the  combination of Bioneuro sigma Q technology  intervention,  aids motor neuron ,Neuropeptide and Neuroendocrine stimulation.

I aspire daily to work for all my patients to gain good clinical outcomes and restoration from the pathologies they present to me with.

Looking at my patient bank that has mounted over the years, evidence is what you can see and what you know to be true ,  people want quality of life , Bioneuro Sigma Q technology  is vital in my book for society in general, training, learning is continuous and it drives me to achieve  .

Pain killers

Some months ago I was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour on my right kidney, at this stage I would like to thank once again the surgeons, nurses and staff at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, first for finding it and acting on it so quickly and the care I was given while being treated there,  I underwent excessively invasive surgery and had 20% of my right kidney removed.

Following surgery I was given morphine for pain relief as it seemed at the time that it  was intense and horrific. I had Robotic surgery, although it is more precise,  the bruising was considerable, when I was able to start my slow and steady rehabilitation program, I started to get back to enjoying the benefits of The Bioneuro.

Bio Nuropulse in action

To aid with forming of the deep  scar tissue that affects the Fascia, although the outer  scars are still very evident , the inner scar tissue is pliable,  healing has had it’s own  related issues  and the journey has had its ups and downs, trigger points have been an evident  problem to deal with.

As the muscles have been recovering  the  multifidus, psoas and minimal gluteal muscles have been the  to say the least uncooperative in their functional ability at times , thankfully I have been in the position, with the help form Jacqui and using the Bioneuro Sigma Q to deal with them effectively.

The positive news is, I am cancer free they managed to remove all the tumor  as it was what they called Encapsulated so it had not had any chance to spread.

I am not on painkillers, I have improved pain free movement, able to work and look after my patients,  I am a an Injury Therapist, it is my passion and I love my work,  the human bodies ability to heal itself with the right sort of help  has been more of an eye opener for me alter becoming the patient myself  needing the aid of the  Bioneuro Sigma Q ,  in combination with manipulation and massage.

I now more than ever understand, why it has become an integral part of what I do, Yes the Morphine and painkilling relief had it’s place at the beginning of my journey and was right for that time , but to be on that sort of medication for long period surely can not be right, the body needs to heal and it needs help to do this, for me Bioneuro Sigma Q and Neuromuscular manipulation helped to move my body further along in that journey and physical recovery, without the need to have constant medication, being able to get out and enjoy time with friends and family without being in pain, My prayer is the best is yet to come .

What A Year, but we are back in business to help our clients be the best they can be!!

What A Year, But We Are Back In Business

Folks we are pleased to say that after a difficult year for everyone .

WE ARE BACK

We are here for our clients, ready to roll and get them being

THE BEST THEY CAN BE

During this difficult time we have all had to make changes, for us it was adapting to all the new Covid Rules.

So what better way than to strip out the Treatment Room give it a deep clean, walls, ceiling, floor, if it was there it was cleaned, then a face lift new cabinets and painting bookshelves . things we could not do while we were busy.

During this difficult time we have all had to make changes, for us it was adapting to all the New Covid Rules. It was hard work, as the standards Broadland Council set are very high, but it is worth it we will keep up these standards knowing we will be keeping our clients safe while they are in our care. Making everything COVID SAFE was the most important thing so our clients could come to us with the confidence and knowledge, that we were taking all the steps we could to protect them. It was logical to work with Broadland council to make sure that we were getting it right

AND WE DID

We are pleased to say we have passed our Broadland Council Covid Safety Checks with Flying Colours and Awarded our Covid Safety Certificate .

During this last year we know how hard it has been for some of our clients, we do understand the difficulties, even more so we empathise with them.

Steve had to go into hospital for surgery himself,  understanding how surgery affects a person physically, physiologically and psychologically are  subjects  we will be talking about, along with  the need for the right  support and care to have a better recovery  outcome.

Manual Therapy Adaptions, for the greater intervention of the Bioneuro Sigma Q Technology.

Manual Therapy Adaptions

As a therapist I have been in the business since my 20’s things have changed over the years, learning to adapt and use the knowledge that I had gained with the treatment of each and every patient  I grew in confidence, taking lots of courses, but I will say only the ones that I considered were right for the direction I was going and that would truly benefit myself and my business.

I found that my thirst for knowledge was going to increase, for me  in 2007 things changed for me and I had a few decisions to make,  one was to build my business to the point that I could be solely committed  to my business and of course my patients, for me it was a no brainier, but to do this I had to be taken seriously by other medical professionals.

Knowing the anatomy, the muscles the nerves how the system’s work together,  I had been given a couple of books while in my 20’s by a radiologist, to read,  those  books set me on my path, they were  by Andrew Biel  The Trail Guide to The Body and Muscle Energy Techniques Leon Chaitow,   Leon became my hero, I bought my own copies of those  book and still have  them today and yes I still use it,  I got to meet  Leon,  now they say you should never meet your heroes as you will be disappointed, but that was not the case, he inspired me even  more , I then had the opportunity to take  a training course with John Sharkey a fantastic anatomist and Leon, that was time and money  on a course that were  the best and well spent , I thank John for taking me under his wing and  all his valued information, any of you that are considering taking a course John  is the person to go to, it will truly open your eyes .

For me  and how I treat my patients has always been, the holistic treatment of a patient, the path and affect of an injury on a patient, the network of soft tissue wrapped and protected by Fascia, how the breakdown of this incredible material can affect people how it can transport the messages around the body, how it interacts and it’s  Biotensegrity ,This is  the  structural principle that describes a relationship between every part of the organism and the mechanical system that integrates it  into a complete functional unit.

By Repairing the injured muscle, working into the superficial and deep Fascia , we can move on to Recovery, by this I mean getting the muscles working for themselves again gently coxing them back in to functional ability, getting the blood flowing back into them and releasing the tension in the muscles .getting all the body systems to work in a cohesive order .

How the body  adapts, all these things count  and it made me question  about how It could affect a patients recovery , in 2009 I bought my first Bioneuro Sigma Q  and along with the tools such as the roller and the ultrasound additions I have found it a useful tool, once again I found I had to adapt and change how I worked, I could no longer use mainly massage, it was to much of a scatter gun approach, I had to change my  techniques and adapt them to get the best out of the Sigma Q technology ,  I found I had to use a more targeted approach and use massage at the end of treatment to relax and recover for a patient, I had to use more Neuromuscular pin point targeted  techniques.

Manual Therapy Adaptions

I found  the main advantages of Sigma Q when combined with Hands on  Neuromuscular targeted techniques are.

To aid in  the  activation and restoration of a muscular skeletal injury.

By using a targeted manual compression technique  you can activate stimulation of the peripheral nerve pathways, but with the aid of the Sigma Q technology this can be achieved to a deeper level that will accelerate recovery of the inquired tissue.

Working to aid the Efferent and Afferent Neurons

Efferent Motor Neurons will be promoted in their journey towards the muscle, therefore  allowing better and increased  muscle movement and function, while the  Afferent neurons these  are  our sensory neurons, will be promoted in their journey to  carry nerve the impulses from sensory stimuli towards our central nervous system and to the  brain,

While the  patient  is recovering  from a trauma injury, the fascinating process of  Phagocytosis takes place , again with the use of Sigma Q technology  the advantage becomes clear as it enables this process to take place faster giving the patient  quicker ability to heal, more so than would take place with manual therapy intervention alone .

In sports therapy  getting into deep tissue is difficult and a lot of muscles are hard to manipulate, especially when your working on a elite spots person,  we know there are aids to help us out there, I use a Neuromuscular activation system, to give me an advantage, but the need to really follow that injury pathway is not always open to us, that track and how things  have got held up, to unravel the damage that has been caused, you need a guide through it.

Our body provides that guide  we just need to know how to follow it how to use it and how to make it count and most of all how to enhance that connection between our hands that are our greatest tools, to  our guide, with out getting  distracted by all the other issues and mixed messages that happen when a person has an injury.

A Two Way Gift

Steve with John Sharkey

I have spoken in the past and more so just recently, in regard  to one of my patients Ivan his injury , how he has been improving and the work we have been doing to enable this .

I will say it has at times been hard work for both of us, but we have had one Goal to get Ivan walking again.

I have used what resources,  I have had at my disposal along with a Neuromuscular Activation system, I have been able to use Neuromuscular Techniques, that I had been taught while on a Neuromuscular Course with The Great John Sharkey, at the  National Training Center in Dublin

“A course I would recommend all Therapist to take.”

You can  by adapting those Neuromuscular Techniques to use them, to suit how you are  working , all us therapist do this, once you have the right standard in place you can adapt, while keeping that integral technical procedure  in place.

Things have come to fruition, This is a slightly early Christmas Present for the Both of us , but one we are so glad to receive so folks have a look at the video that we have received.

“This is Ivan’s First Time Walking Without Sticks in nearly 20 years”

.

Ivan’s email to us

Having had a traumatic injury, I had evolved a technique of getting around, to which I used my Right leg as a crutch. In response to this my muscles became stiffer, and stiffer, I didn’t feel that conventional medicine was resolving my situation, I stated looking for an alternative  being under a lot of stress due to my injury, I visited  Chiropractors and other soft tissue technicians in the  hope of  providing  some relief , but  they couldn’t resolve the problem that my right foot was 2 inches off the ground and very reluctant to follow through in front of my left.

They had however,  identified deep lateral hip rotator muscles as the problem, as they had totally atrophied

Finally a friend suggested I contact  Steve Kirby of Getfitstayfit Norfolk,  when Steve first examined me I felt he had an enormous understanding in this field, after my first visit I felt a release from what had  seemed to be pulling me downward.

Subsequent  visits enabled me  to put my right foot on the ground, using the Bioneuro a powerful implement when used by an operator, that has studied  neuromuscular injury  conditions and techniques , human movement and  physiology.

Due to family situations and distant, having regular treatment was difficult so a great deal of time  was wasted,

I  was determined to  keep working with  Steve  however  and not go backwards.

Recently  I have been able to have more regular treatment,  and  with Steve’s  training and  understanding of human  anatomy, mobility, neuromuscular techniques, combined with the added use of the  Bioneuro, it has made a great deal of  difference to me in  my life,  I can see vast improvement,  it has given me my life back, more independence, less pain, more mobility and  freedom.

At last I am beginning to walk in the conventional way again, it will take time but steps in the right direction.

Adrian had also suffered a major trauma, in which he had been being kicked in the hip by a race horse

Adrian had also suffered a major trauma

Being kicked by a horse is like being hit by a ton weight moving at about 20 miles an hour

Here at our Neuromuscular and Skeletal  Injury Clinic we treat patients  with both chronic and acute injuries, caused by either  sudden mild muscular trauma, repetitive muscular injury or in quite a few cases a long term muscular injury due to a very traumatic related incident.

I have always believed that when you treat a patient you are treating the whole  of the patient, to do that you have to ask questions and listen to the answers give them time to think about and discuss with you how they are feeling, what had happened, how they are adapting what has being going on since the incident.

You need all the information and it is amazing how much people do not tell you at first, but as time passes more is revealed to help you put things into perspective.

This is what has been happening with one of our Long term patients .

Adrian presented at our clinic in the summer of 2019.

Blinded with fear of the future due to the view and consensus, it was possible, that he was suffering from  Cerebellar ataxia (Cerebellar ataxia can occur as a result of many diseases and may present with symptoms of an inability to coordinate balance, gait, extremity and eye movement). This man used to swim for his county ,be very fit and had quality of life .

Knowing  that specialised treatment with  ( Transcranial direct current stimulation TDCS) was being trialled I felt strongly we could help with Bioneuro Sigma Q treatment .

Further investigations found Adrian had also suffered a major trauma, in which he had been being kicked in the hip by a race horse, being kicked by a horse is like being hit by a ton weight moving at about 20 miles an hour, this in anyone’s book is major impact injury, then stamping on his foot,  let’s not kid ourselves here, we are not just talking shattered bones, but nerve and muscle damage all of a serious degree in truth it could kill you.

For Adrian  it had caused dramatic physical deterioration, The impact for him  being kicked by the race horse had caused Femoral Acetabular Impingement  (FAI ).

Then to add to that, he then had to have  abdominal prostate surgical intervention, this also caused numerous issues, his core stability was by no means in anyway in a good condition, leaving him  with, very poor  coordinated motions of his hip ,lower spinal column and femur  life for this man was not great.

Bioneuro sigma Q intervention has aided the return of good Pelvifemoral rhythmic motion to aid this physical abilities in every fashion.

So what clinical outcomes have we seen with Bioneuro, Sigma Q  .

Here are a few ,

Walking ability/posture,  Has improved greatly now 95 % unaided .

Hip and knee function that had degenerated greatly, Muscle tone improved  and natural proprioception ,all three types  (  perception or awareness of the position and movement of the body)  dramatically improved .

All Physiological natural everyday bodily functions are working well with ,Medication no longer required to aid in these functions.

Adrian’s Neurologist had seen him when we first commenced  treatment, seeing him since treatment started, he  is deeply impressed , due to the fact that the physical degeneration had ceased and he was now seeing  marked improvement

We are  pleased that on each appointment, Adrian has shown a positive response and that at his next appointment,  he will be showing much further improvement and he is moving forward.

There is much more to write as we take this journey with Adrian , this is such a good news story of a life being restored and a person having quality of life in every sense again.

The bigger and more powerful overriding goal for Adrian and his partner Haley, is a (WWW. one), no not the World Wide Web .

This is closer to home for them both, a home they are  wanting to build together starting with.

A Walk (Totally unaided  down an Aisle)  , Adrian said to me when we first met this was one of his main hopes he wanted walk his future wife Haley, down the aisle at their Wedding, to a future together building their lives again, then back to  Work ,to return to his job, this can now be looked at and seriously considered.

All Physiological natural everyday bodily functions are working well with ,Medication no longer required to aid in these functions. Adrian’s Neurologist had seen him when we first commenced treatment, seeing him since treatment started, he is deeply impressed , due to the fact that the physical degeneration had ceased and he was now seeing marked improvement We are pleased that on each appointment, Adrian has shown a positive response and that at his next appointment, he will be showing much further improvement .

That’s the future clinical outcome that  I want to work towards for him, with the aid of Bioneuro Sigma Q, the same as I want for all my patients ,so they can have quality of life to the full.

Do Sports Massage Therapist, or Soft Tissue Therapist get the credit they deserve ?

Folks I have read a lot of comments in reference to Sports Massage Therapist, or Soft Tissue Therapist not being able to open just yet . In all my 30 years of being a therapist I have never known so many of my colleague’s to be so despondent and under valued and it saddens me, because I know how much work they do

Folks I have read a lot of comments in reference to Sports Massage Therapist, or Soft Tissue Therapist not being able to open just yet .

In all my 30 years of being a therapist I have never known so many of my colleague’s to be so despondent and under valued and it saddens me, because I know how much work they do.

As the re-opening is starting after Covid 19 ,a Soft Tissue Therapist  said “If we are waiting for them to say the words Sports Massage or Soft Tissue Therapist can re-open , then forget it they won’t “ .

The reason being they NEVER said that Sports Massage or Soft Tissue Therapist should close,  please bear with me on this , as I would like you to think back to 2012 and the Olympic Games in London, when a considerable number of Massage Therapist and such were helping out by looking after the athletes, at the end they were thanked for their work.

in fact I do think it was, Boris that thanked them, but what did he call them ? “It was Physio’s” he  like most event organisers and a lot of athletes,  just think of all therapist, that are looking after them as Physio’s.

They do not concern themselves with all the different organisations that are involved,  they just want someone to do the job, to help fix them when they are injured.

After all the term  Physiotherapist according to the Oxford dictionary is “A person qualified to treat disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as massage, heat treatment, and exercise,  be it after a hip replacement or injury”, there is no definition for either a Soft Tissue Therapist or Sports Massage Therapist in the dictionary, so no wonder they get confused as to what we do .

It is our own bureaucracy that has created the divisions and the discrimination, we have one word that causes us problems and that word is, MASSAGE  it is not considered by some insurance companies as a treatment, even if you are dealing with rehabilitation massage after injury, they consider massage as a preventative just for relaxing, they do not consider the beneficial out comes for a client .

The word holds so many connotations, “a massage” is considered  a source of pleasure,  ” A relaxing massage” we have all heard the term, we also know that when you add the word PARLOUR,  then bells ring in any professional therapist head.

As it has very seedy connotations and a word we need to stop using to define our business’s,  as the definition in Collins Dictionary  states “A Massage Parlour is a place where people go and pay for a massage, some places that are called Massage Parlours, are in fact places where people pay to have sex.

As Boris is the type of person that would and does very often refer to the Dictionary Meaning, is it possible that therapist are asking the wrong question ? First should we ask “What sort of establishment  is Boris referring to when he  states Massage Parlours, are to remain closed, does he know the difference between Physiotherapists and Soft Tissue Therapist.?

We may find that neither he, or his other party ministers  understand the difference, and that we have been categorising ourselves unnecessarily, because of a word.

Please do not misunderstand me, I have agreed and adhered to the rules,  but I do feel that this is now a matter of confusion, because of how we define our businesses.

I am not a Massage Therapist, I use massage as part of the treatment process for my patients,  I am a Neuromuscular Injury Therapist and I have worked hard to achieve this.

I work with and Consultants, GPs Neurologist, Orthopaedic Consultants, I have had the privilege of being trained by an incredible Anatomist , I am able to discuss and receive advice in what I am achieving for my patients, with some very well respected consultants ,  I deal with injuries and long term rehabilitation, I have worked with  people across the social spectrum from  elite athletes to elderly folk, that have had hip or knee surgery and find they struggled with the exercises given to them by the physiotherapist and they need a more hands on approach and support, People Do Not come to me, for  a Relaxing Massage or a Happy Ending, I do not run that kind of establishment, I treat patients that need my help with trauma related pathologies and injury prevention.

The Bioneuro Therapy System Sigma Q (ΣQ®) Diagnostic Roller & The Pain Pathways

Diagnostic Roller & The Pain Pathways

The Bioneuro Therapy System Sigma Q (ΣQ®) Diagnostic Roller, is a very valuable Diagnostic tool it is used  to locate the areas of nerve dysfunction in the muscle groups of the body,  where for what ever reason the muscle group is not  firing, people call them” Hot spots,  trigger points, knots,”  what ever they are called the fact is that the Neuro messages /signals are not getting through and for muscles to function correctly, these messages need to get through.

Bioneuro Sigma Steve Kirby in Use

These messengers or for their correct name  Neurotransmitters react to aid functions of muscle,  these are a type of chemical messenger which transmit signals across a chemical Synapse  (this is the Junctions between two nerve cells, such as a Neuromuscular junction, from one Motor neuron (or nerve cell to another nerve cell ) or another Motor neuron, or to a target neuron in the muscle cell, or gland cell.

When this process is disrupted and the signals do not get through, function, and ability of muscles to work  with pain free movement becomes difficult.

When this process is disrupted and the signals do not get through, function, and ability of muscles to work with pain free movement becomes difficult.

So how does the Roller do its job to such a degree ?

The answer It is all about targeting those NOCICEPTIVE PAIN  POINTS

We know

that Neuropathic pain is caused by damage to the neurons that are involved in the pain signalling pathways in the nervous system and nerves react to static when they are not firing correctly,

Nociceptors are the sensors of the Pain Pathway, these receptors are in every tissue of the body except the brain, when injury occurs Nociceptors are activated  and chemical are released such as  prostaglandins kinins and potassium ions , these then stimulate the Nociceptors,

Pain can persist even after these pain producing stimulus have been removed, because these chemicals linger and the Nociceptors do not adapt very quickly once activated.

Neuromodulation technique

This can cause prolonged muscle contraction muscle spasms even Ischaemia ( this is inadequate blood flow to muscles or organs.)

So by using  Nociception, to follow the Pain Pathway back, through the sensory nerve cells called Nociceptors, that in turn produce the signal that travels along a chain of nerve fibres via the spinal cord to the brain and the Nociceptors that are affecting  the nerves, that are creating the obstructions, which sense and respond to parts of the body which have suffered from damage.

With the aid of the Roller tool and the ability of the Bioneuro Sigma Q, we can find the exact location of the dysfunction created by the trauma pathology.

When you are given the Diagnosis of Diabetes type 2. it has not just happened on that day, otherwise they would not be diagnosing it.

Diagnosis of Diabetes type 2

When you are given the Diagnosis of Diabetes type 2. it has not just happened on that day, otherwise they would not be diagnosing it.

The damage is already taking place, it is not the 1st day of the disease, it is the “wake up call that something is very wrong”  it is not the Starting point, what it needs to be “is the point where intervention will stop or reduce the acceleration”.

Where you take control of it and your body, so that Diabetes does not take control of you .

You have to take charge, you have to look at your diet, health and your exercise plan, I am not saying that you have suddenly start running, going to the gym and take on the world.

Talk to and take the advice of the Diabetic Nurse have a look at   Diabetes Uk for advice in regards to your diet  lots of information, charts and answers yes there is a lot to take in, so take your time, but if you set a Goal to get ahead of this, then you will.

“In other words no matter what advice you are given. in the end it is going to be up to you so try to do the right thing for you”

Exercise is good but the right type , you need to look at the cardiovascular, start easy go swimming, walking you need to get the muscles relaxed not tighten them up , there are reasons for this.

The things that you need to be aware of you have to reduce your sugar intake, smoking and excessive alcohol use can contribute to Diabetic Neuropathy, also pure fruit juice in fact forget the sugary drinks and high in sugar fruits, leaf vegetables are your friend, but read up on things. You do need to make sure you are looking at both your nutrition and movement.

Exercise is good but the right type , you need to look at the cardiovascular, start easy go swimming, walking you need to get the muscles relaxed not tighten them up , there are reasons for this.

Tightened or shortened muscles, do not have  good blood flow and nerve supply and Good Blood Flow and Nerve supply is essential if you have Diabetes.

In that exercise plan please consider Massage, for many reasons apart from helping with blood flow and lymphatic system’s it will also help with lifting mood and depression, so it aids both your Psychological and the Physiological systems. It will help keep the muscles supple, the blood flow will increase, more important you will get blood flow to your muscles and your nerve supply will increase  one won’t work with out the other to create movement , the muscles facilitate the movement the nerves orchestrate  it.

You have to look after your extremities, I.E your hands and feet, this is not something to  take with a pinch of salt it is one of the more worrying things about Diabetes, the problem is Many people with diabetes have Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD).

PAD’s will reduce Blood flow to the feet, the other part of the problem is that  many people with diabetes also have nerve disease, this then  reduces sensation.

Some facts that you should consider

Our Blood vessels are vital for the body and play a key role in diabetes helping to transport glucose and insulin, But they can become  damaged by the effects of high blood glucose levels , so there is going to be a knock on effect , it can cause damage to organs, such as the heart and eyes, if significant blood vessel damage is sustained, the reason being Damaged blood vessels can’t do their job, they are meant  too such as  bringing oxygen and nutrients to the nerves,  if they are damaged , eventually it will lead to nerve damage.

Diabetic neuropathy, you will more than likely hear it called ” Diabetic Nerve Pain”, this is diabetes related nerve damage. It will develop over time; unfortunately  the longer you have diabetes, the more at risk you are for diabetic neuropathy to become a reality, so the sooner you start to look after you the better things will be.

I always believe strongly  as a Therapist everyday is a learning opportunity . Especially with  pathologies  such as diabetes.

Every one is made the same, but in some way we are all different . I have been using cutting edge technology in the form of The Bioneuro System Sigma Q, along with massage and manipulations to  aid my  clients, are noticing great results.

it was great to receive this from one of my patients Darren in feed back, it is great to see his improvement at each session.

Dear Steve

In September of 2018 I underwent a second operation to remove a large kidney stone – after the operation I was suffering from a pain in the right hip and the front of the right thigh was painful to the touch – after some visits to the doctors, then a physio I was referred to neurology – a wait of some 16 weeks

At this time I could not walk (even on a smooth flat surface) without a stick – and anything other than a perfectly flat surface would lead to the leg collapsing and I ended up lying on the floor –  leading to several embarrassing moment at potential customers properties and a more serious incident where I fell down a flight of 12 concrete steps

I could not negotiate slopes – uphill was painful to the front of the leg and downhill resulted in loss of feeling

I couldn’t carry anything heavier than 1 kg as I would lose balance

I always felt fatigued – dropping off to sleep in the afternoon and retiring to bed as early as 8 pm in the evening

I could not lift the right leg into the air if lying on my back – climbing and depending stairs was extremely difficult – getting in/out of cars was hard and in/out of vans impossible

After finally seeing a consultant and undertaking a nerve test I was informed that basically I was to live with this condition as its diabetes related

Moving forward and on recommendation I have now had 4 treatments with Steve  on his Bioneuro Sigma Q system and the  improvements are remarkable:

I walk unaided on the majority of surfaces – with or without shopping

I can step-up and down kerbs without fear

I can raise my leg from the lying down position

I have reduced the amount of painkillers to just 1 every other day (from 2 per day)

I am less fatigued

I can descend stairs almost normally

I can with effort, climb stairs normally

I can rise from the sitting position without help and cross my legs

I have now started to take the children 10 pin bowling – although not as fluid in delivery as I want to be I can deliver a 12 pound ball down the lane pain free

Accidents and Trauma Happen !!!

Accidents and Trauma Happen

Accidents and trauma happen, but with a deep  soft tissue injury,  it can take in some cases, as long as a broken bone to heal.

When a client comes to our clinic, getting into the deep tissue to help with restoration and recovery is the most important thing, to help reduce the healing time and need for medication, so they can get back to their lives.

Jess had taken a rather bad fall down a flight of steps, thankfully nothing was broken, but the soft tissue damage was so great both A&E and her own GP said she would be looking at a good 3 months before getting back to normal. as a nursing assistant Jess was so upset because of the impact this would have on her job.

Steve had already been treating her brother for a back injury, he advised her to come to see Steve  in the hope that Steve could help.

He did and while having treatment with Steve Jess reduced the need for pain medication and she is off the crutches, 3 weeks into the treatment sessions and Jess was looking to start back at work.

We use the Bioneuro along with Neuromuscular Techniques to achieve a good clinical outcome.

Jess sent us some before and  after photos after her last treatment, along with this message

“Steve is incredible, I fell over a few weeks ago causing trauma to my foot and ankle and I was left on crutches, after a couple sessions Steve got the swelling down and more movement in my toes, where I could weight bare and only use one crutch. A couple more sessions and I just know I’ll finally be able to go back to work as a nursing assistant. Not only does he help people get better, he’s just a really lovely and friendly guy which makes the experience all that much better and relaxing.

I would recommend Steve to anyone!!!”

We all love to have good results

Then from a clients wife a message he is a Iron-man competitor and triathlete she just wanted to say “Thanks for fixing her husband. He completed Vichy iron-man in 12:32:58 his best iron-man time so far. Then just to top it all a client that had been trying to get a MRI scan with not much success asked me to send a letter to her GP to see if would help, I explained in the letter my finding with the “Bioneuro Assessment tool”, they have now agreed with letting her have the MRI It is great to achieve goals, especially when it means that someone else also is, recovering or finally getting the help that they nee

I know we all love good results and not just our team on the football field, I mean in our business and a good result can make your week

The day started off with a client that I have had for a while they came to me with a sever  back injury, having gone back for their  NHS assessment to be told by the Physiotherapist that.

” The treatment they were getting with myself and the use of the Bioneuro has made a significant difference to their  recovery in an incredibly short space of time “.

Professional Dancing can take it’s toll

Professional Dancing

A lot of us like musicals and lets face it there are some brilliant ones out there.

Here at Getfitstayfit Norfolk we have had the pleasure of looking after a few Professional Dancers, but one young man, that has played the lead, in that of  Grease ,Top Hat and Singing In The  Rain, came to us with an injury that needed quite  a bit of treatment, but had a great positive clinical outcome.

All the parts he has been  playing were very physical parts, as a dancer these parts drew on all of Alex’s physical strength,  he could not afford to be in pain or have an injury, to do Top Hat he had to be in Top Condition.

Alex came to us back in 2017 after an injury causing Muscle Damage, to his lower back , sustained while playing his other passion, but due to his work commitments,  was going to be  his last game of Rugby.

Alex responded very well to treatment with the Bioneuro massage and Neuromuscular therapy techniques,  he was soon back on form and taking on his lead part in Grease.

Also he wanted to know how he could help himself and his body more, he needed to be able to sustain Fluid Motion, he was a very good student and has been working hard to keep himself in great condition.

Unfortunately  Alex had a bit of a set back at the beginning of 2018, after a very busy year, but we dealt with it quickly and Alex was back on course again, this time the lead in, Singing In The Rain.

In my years of treating Musculoskeletal injuries, I have learnt, that one size does not fit all, I adapt what I do so I can do the best for the patient and the injury.

Trigger points often appear, also known as trigger sites or muscle knots,( just for the record although called muscle knots a muscle can not knot as it has an origin and an insertion ) are described as hyperirritable spots sarcomeres in skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taunt bands of muscle fibres Research has improved considerably in the knowledge of what a Trigger Point Formation is, this is when a dysfunctional endplate occurs, commonly associated with a strain or the over building of muscle tissue that can then be damaged, stored calcium is realised at the site that creates a oxygen nutrient deficit. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is needed in order to remove the excessive calcium the problem is that ATP is decreased by the tightening of the tissue this then restricts the blood supply . The persistence’s of high calcium level resumes causing Acetylcholine (ACh), release creating a viscous cycle.

It would be no use giving just standard exercises to someone like Alex, dancers are already very fit and exercise all their muscles, you have to have a different approach to their  injuries, it has to be targeted, by using Neuromuscular techniques along with the Bioneuro, allowed me to get into the deep muscle tissue/ fascia in the area that the injury had occurred, concentrating on the rehabilitation after the recovery and using Alex’s own ability as a dancer, to teach him to target his own muscles groups, allows him to keep on top of things and to avoid further injury.

Please have a look at Alex’s video to find out a lot more.

His first words to me were” Can we do this ? I work off shore and want to get back”

work off shore

I don’t  think I will ever regret what I do for a living, I love my job seeing people, Getting Back to Fitness And Being The Best They Can

Then you see some people that are just incredible, their determination, drive and need to Get Back to how they were is  overpowering.

Charlie is one such person he came to me Mid March after receiving a phone call from his brother, explaining the situation.

Charlie had a very bad accident the previous December, seeing the X-rays of his injury I thought how much work his surgeon, had done to get this far And the effort,. Charlie had put in to even be able to stand let alone shuffle.

I went on to treat Charlie with the Bioneuro and massage, getting him prepared for his back to work interview with his employers, whom did not expect him back possibly till December 2019, only then the possibility of light duties certainty not back to off shore work .

Well just recently Charlie had an interview with his employers, we still have some work to do but the progress has been amazing and with no need for painkilling medication.

“The Multifidus is a very deep muscle in the human body and an excessively hard muscle to work on manually, but with treating Trevor with The Bioneuro Sigma Q, a piece of equipment that uses electrical frequency and can reach into deep muscles without being invasive, at the same time aiding neurotransmitters and blood supply to the area.”

Charlie sent me an email, with outcome.

Hi Steve

While working on a ship early December 2017 in the North Sea in extremely rough weather, I was thrown across the deck.

I had to be taken into hospital with a bad back injury, turns out  I had crushed vertebrae, I had to have spinal compression surgery (my nerves were trapped between the discs ) I was told there was every possibility, I may not walk again.

After the surgery I had very limited movement in my Legs, feet and toes,  I was put onto a course of physiotherapy, it was working, but very slowly but it got me up onto a frame walking, but it was hard and  really slow, in January I was still in a wheel chair.

February came and I had progressed to a walking frame by mid March I had advanced to two sticks, but with the shuffle and hard to put one foot in front of the other and still wobbly.

While talking to my brother he told me about, him having treatment with Getfitstayfit Norfolk and a thing called Bioneuro therapy, which I had never heard of.

I spoke to my physiotherapist and she had not heard of it,  I then spoke to my consultant,  at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital and he had not heard about it either.

My brother convinced me to make an appointment  to meet Steve and have a consultation with him, to see if this Bioneuro therapy would work.

I first arrived on the 21st March still on two sticks, by mid April I was on one stick

Here we are  two months down the road I am not using the sticks, I am going back to work on light duties towards Mid June .

Then hopefully within a short period  I will be back to work full time and back off shore, this treatment has really made a difference, the possibilities for anyone who’s had spinal compression surgery or suffered with similar problem as myself.

I can’t thank Steve and his Bioneuro and massage treatment, enough for what he’s done for me.

Many Thanks

Charlie.
