Dennis fell and landed badly on his shoulder suffering constant pain and restricted movement .

Dennis is of mature years and like many of his age group, is a stalwart and believes in getting on with things , but on Boxing day 2011 he had a very nasty accident .

Dennis fell and landed badly on his shoulder,  he went to his Doctor at the time and was given pain medication and told is was muscular, he was in constant pain with it and it steadily got worse and restricted his movement .

He saw our advert in our local Village book , he decided he would come and see if we could help him, So with the use of  Bioneuro Therapy System  to get into the very restricted area, and gentle Neuromuscular Therapy  Techniques  to release tight muscles, after only 3 sessions he had full movement  in his painful shoulder he is a very happy man.

Neck and Back Injury treatment with Steve Kirby of Getfitstayfit Norfolk

I was born with scoliosis and had a Spinal Fusion at three years old. The operation worked very well up until the age of around 20 when I started to notice lower back pain. This increased over the years leaving me struggling with chronic pain. I tried various things like epidural and nerve root injections but nothing seemed to work. In June 2016 I underwent surgery to correct the curve in my spine, taking a piece out and replacing it with a metal cage as well as two metal rods either side for support. Unfortunately during the operation The surgeon caught my spinal cord leaving me in Spinal Shock and temporally paralysed from the waist down, but within days I started being able to move my legs very slightly but I was unable to move my toes or my feet.

Richard  is a very active man and  one of his loves is his racing driving he came to us after having tried a  few treatments with other therapist but with no success.

for his back shoulders and neck, but due to a condition with his neck he could not have that area massaged.

Things were getting him down. A friend who had been to see us recommended him to come and see Steve. This is what he has to say about his treatment with us.

London Marathon Training With Help From Getfitstayfit Norfolk

marcus & rach

Steve & Jacqui

Testimonial from Marcus..

My name is Marcus Chilvers and I am a director of J R Pitchers Ltd (a motor engineering firm). I have been lucky enough to get a place via ballot on the London Marathon for 2013 after 3 previous attempts.

Following previous treatment with Steve Kirby at Getfitstayfit Norfolk for a neck injury I discussed with him my impending challenge.

Steve suggested a weekly sports therapy session which included Bioneuro therapy along with Neuromuscular  therapy treatments and the usual sports therapy massages.

He also suggested what type of training to do to increase my stamina and improve my breathing technique.

I have had some injuries which have crept up on my during training, a groin injury and a foot injury.

Which Steve has attended to and subsequently advised me the best training to do (or not to do) that particular week to ensure I do not aggravate the condition but to keep me on track with my training.

The Bioneuro therapy and Hydrotherm Massage Therapy are treatments which are amazing to see and feel the benefits from – these have certainly helped my body to recover from training and build up my core strength. Sometimes they are that effective I almost relax too much on the therapy treatment!

All aspects of the training advice, therapy and treatments have enhanced my ability to ensure I will be fit on the day in April. Recently I did a run on a snowy Sunday morning which was just under 10 miles but the whole journey was along the beach which Steve advised me – “you can double any beach miles” which pleased me tremendously. After completing this 10 mile distance I felt confident and very happy to know I am in safe hands and progressing nicely towards  April’s challenge.

I just wanted to thank Steve for all his attention and advice leading up to my big day in April and I know this is certainly helping me get where I need to be fitness-wise so thank you.

An Update Marcus Completed the Marathon in good time and is doing very well.

His Trainers unfortunately are not.

Pheasant Season almost over, but the Recoil Injuries are here for Game Shooters in Norfolk

Pheasant Season almost over, but the Recoil Injuries are here for Game Shooters in Norfolk

Norfolk is known for it’s Pheasant shoots it is fantastic and truly is the UK’s top Shooting county, but the Recoil injuries to Neck and Shoulder are also a problem here for Game Shooters in Norfolk.

It has some world famous shooting venues including Sandringham, just ask the Queen and the Holkham Estate, we also have some great shoots in Broadlands, but it is that time again, when the pheasant can breath a sigh of relief and the  pigeons will still take their turn. but things are slowing down on the shooting  diary.

So now is the time to sort out the injuries that have occurred during the season, The Neck, and Shoulder injuries caused by  Newton’s Third Law of Motion. That is for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Better know to those that shoot as Recoil this is the motion of the gun in the opposite direction to that of its projectile. The force is affected by the weight of the gun, the weight of the projectile, and, most notably, by muzzle velocity.

There are two phase’s to recoil the Primary and the Secondary, primary recoil begins momentarily after the primer is detonated, the ignited propellant rapidly creates an expansion of gas that overcomes the inertia of the shot charge and wad and accelerates  them down the barrel, there is also a force of friction and air resistance to overcome.

The trouble to the person shooting the gun comes on The Secondary recoil the effects of which seem much smaller and starts when the ejector (pellets, wad and burnt powder) leave the barrel there is a sudden release of gas causing The gun to be pushed back much like a rocket. Recoil is not just about the rearwards movement, but the body’s reaction to this movement in so much as it will cause, rotation about the axis of the shoulder when a gun is fired. This is because the centre line of the bore is above the shoulder line.

Recoil is not just  about the  rearwards movement, but the body’s reaction to this movement in so much as it will cause,  rotation about the axis of the shoulder when a gun is fired. This is because the centre line of the bore is above the shoulder line.

When this rotation effect occurs, the muzzle moves up and the cheek piece of the gun may be brought into abrupt contact with the Zygomatic bone, this is  a bone of the human skull we know as the  cheekbone.

At the same time the butt sole may slip from the shoulder (especially if it is poorly designed with a very inclined comb or, if the gun is being fired from an awkward or inappropriate position,) the term used is Face Slap, a trip to A&E may be the visiting place if this occurs.

For those  more experienced and doing quite a lot of shooting, this will hold problems of its own with

Shoulder, Rotator Cuff,  Rhomboid Muscles, causing Frozen or Dropped Shoulder  or the Neck Muscles   Sternocleidomastoid,   Longus Colli , Longus Capitis,Suprahyoid muscles and Infrahyoid muscles. having the same effect as a whiplash injury

Here at Getfitstayfit Norfolk we are able to help keep you on form during the season and to help get you back to full fitness if the season takes it toll on you with a Neuromuscular Injury Therapy, Remedial massage  and if you’re having problems with those deep muscles, we can help with the Bioneuro Therapy System.

Cold Air and how it the affects our Muscles & Joints

Cold Air and how it the affects our Muscles & Joints

Did you know that you muscles react to cold air similar to a barometer

In the cold months that are now upon us, unlike the weather we have had this last couple of weeks, cold air brings with it lower barometric air pressure.  This means gas expands when heated and contracts when cooled so the lower air temperature it will causes the air to constrict the result is lower pressure. Well this is the same affect on your muscles they constrict and tighten . This lower air pressure, causes the soft tissue around your joints to expand in response, and it infringes on the joints, which can cause pain that radiates into the muscles making them more prone to cramps and spasms and generate more pain.

Are You Prepared ?

This is why you must warm up and stretch, it is so important when training in lower temperatures, apart from anything else you need to do this for you cardiovascular system.

Even if you are going into a warm gym to do your training, remember your muscles would have got cold prior to getting in there. be kind to them they have a lot of work to do.

We have been writing about getting your body ready for Spring When we have all been use to Winter for so long. Our muscles are Tight and Contracted, no one wants constricted muscles it is not good for you, its like being in a Straight Jacket, struggling to get out.

Cold Air will also affect any Pre-existing Conditions people have

If you sufferer from Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, or have any joint injury you are going to feel it in the cold weather more, because of the nature or these problems they are more  susceptible to cold weather  and how it effects your joints and muscles you are already experiencing pain, so when the winter months come  the changes in temperature and weather will exacerbate your condition, it  brings with it more problems than you  already have. We all know that  Arthritis causes swollen joints, so  when the soft tissue expands around the joints, it causes more pressure and pain.

Regular Maintenance in the form of Neuromuscular Therapy along with Sports Massage can help immensely in the winter months for anyone with Joint pain, and this is a time of year when you need to keep more active, to keep warm, so Therapy massage will enable you to do this.

Along with the Bioneuro, that will aid circulation that in turn will help towards the reduction of pain especially in people with Arthritis

it works in a way that it can get into the joints that normal massage may not be able too.

With  Neuromuscular Techniques, remedial massage, we can deal with a lot of the Muscular Skeletal problems that can be caused by the cold weather.

We want you to enjoy the cold months keep exercising, enjoy time with your family outdoors, Winter need not be all doom and gloom.

Our New Hydrotherm Massage Bed here at Getfitstayfit Norfolk

How The Hydrotherm Massage Therapy Helped Back Pain In Norwich

Matt was working on his Boat hire business on the Broads at the Peak of the season, he was also about to get married, move into a new house and he was trying to cope with a lower back injury, he needed a lot of help.

“Hi Matt here, just a quick message to say a big thank you to Steve and Jacqui at Getfitstayfit Norfolk. I have been having my back manipulated due to general aches and pains of life and work for quite some time. I booked in the other day and I was introduced to the Hydrotherm bed in combo with the Bioneuro system I am already used to

The only word I can come up with is WOW.

The Bioneuro system is fantastic and for me has been a massive help in healing my aches and pains so I can have a better quality of life than I had before I went to Getfitstayfit Norfolk.

Now imagine that kind of relaxation with a liquid filled mattress to lay on which is heated.

The result for me was that the therapy felt as if it went straight through my body all at the same time rather than just on the muscles which required fixing.

I don’t quite know how to explain it any further other than if your life is stressful or you just don’t feel as if your engine is running right, please give Steve or Jacqui a call at Getfitstayfit Norfolk and give it a go. It has without a doubt given me the ability to keep up with my very busy life without the aches and pains to go with it.”

Severe Pain Across Lower Back And Down Both Legs

Severe Pain Across Lower Back And Down Both Legs

I had severe pain across my lower back and down one or both legs.

This is Jennie’s story, she came to me with a number of issues and it was a long process, it had its ups and downs , but Jennie is a determined woman and we worked through the downs  to achieve the very positive ups , she wanted her life back and not a drug induced existence, of which she was having to deal with because of the Morphine Patches , of which I can happily say she no longer needs. At first it she came to me  weekly, but as she progressed she only needed to see me once a month, now it is and when she feels she needs too and the difference in Jennie is quite something.

I was unable to carry on a normal life. I was then put on to Morphine patches which did help -but for the rest of my life? Steve has given me hope. After 18 months, with treatment on the Bioneuro Dry System I am taking little or no painkillers. I have just walked 3 miles with my dog and can look forward to a future.

“Hello

I contacted Steve Kirby on August Bank Holiday 2011,he offered me help straight away. I had been in severe pain for over 4 years after pulling my wet dog out of the river. I had severe pain across my lower back and down one or both legs. No specialist-Orthopaedic, Neurologist or Rheumatoid offered any help. Following MRI scans[which showed several bulging discs I was given steroid and analgesic injections with no effect.

I was also given Denervation [burning of the nerves]  to stop the pain. That did not work either.

I was unable to carry on a normal life. I was then put on to Morphine patches which did help -but for the rest of my life?

Steve has given me hope. After 18 months, with treatment on the Bioneuro Dry System I am taking little or no painkillers. I have just walked 3 miles with my dog and can look forward to a future.”

Peter in Norfolk and what he had to say about Getfitstayfit Norfolk

Problems with the neck that transferred to the trapezium down through the shoulder to the arms. As I always say all muscles pull and if you have a tight muscle in the upper part of the body it will affect other areas, this was the case for Peter, the same affect as leaning over the computer at work all day, here is his testimony after being treated by Steve.

Peter is a very busy man a work related issue had  lead to.

As I always say all muscles pull and if you have a tight muscle in the upper part of the body it will affect other areas, this was the case for Peter,  the same affect as leaning over the computer at work all day, here is his testimony after being treated by Steve.

Hi Steve

Sorry I have taken so long to get back to you but we have been rushed off our feet but at long last I can send you a testimonial.

I had been suffering with a clicking  neck for a couple of years and sometimes my head felt that it had the weight of a medicine ball.

I kept putting off doing anything about it as I was used to pain because of a very rare condition that I suffer from as I have to take morphine 3 times a day

Apart from my neck I started to get really sharp pains in my elbow.  I was recommended to see Steve Kirby so I made an appointment and went to see him at his clinic in Norwich.

Steve uses a unique machine called The Bioneuro Dry System Sigma, he put some pads on my back then wired them to the machine which sent electric pulses deep into my muscles for about 20 mins.  It felt great.

Then he gave me a terrific sports massage he uses Neuromuscular Injury techniques, working on my painful joints.

After just 2 sessions with him, the results were amazing, my neck is the best it has been in years and the pain in my elbow, gone.

If you have painful joints or suffer tight muscles through stress, go to Steve Kirby, he will make you feel a million dollars.  Anyone in a stressful job should also go to Steve.

Bosses send your stressed staff to him,  you will get much more from them for just 1 hour with this brilliant guy and his amazing machine.

Thanks Steve.  See you again soon.

Elbow Injury for Plasterer in Norwich helped by Getfitstayfit Norfolk

When a person gets tennis elbow, one or more of the tendons in their elbow becomes. Painful. Swollen and tight the pain occurs at the point where the tendons of the forearm muscle attach to the bone. Twisting movements, such as turning a door handle or opening the lid of a jar, are particularly painful. In other words your arm aches so much that you don’t want to move it Please DO NOT REACH FOR THE HEAT PAD’S, GEL OR ANY THING LIKE THAT. The first thing you need is our old friend ICE and yes you will have to rest the arm, in around three quarters of cases of tennis elbow, the dominant hand (the one that is used the most) is affected.

Malcolm came to Steve with problems with his elbow and clearly needed help, as a plasterer he had to get into awkward and prolonged position of having his arm locked above his head, he was getting to the point that he would no longer be able to do his job

Steve used the Bioneuro System Sigma Q(ΣQ)® on him along with Sports massage and had some interesting results.

Bioneuro Therapy System Sigma Q

Malcolm will need further treatment and the Doctors had done a lot but it was that main push that Malcolm needed to get his arm functioning again.

“Hi Steve,
After suffering from a bike accident about two years ago , & being left with pins & needles in my right hand & a lot of discomfort & lack of movement in my right elbow. I tried sorting this out at my local GPs, but after seven cortisone injections still no luck with changing anything, spoke to my GP again to be advised that I may have to look at changing my career,( Not impressed with that idea at all )

I proceeded to investigate alternative therapy, much of which has generally not worked .

I was then advised by a friend of mine about the work she has had done by you and your Bioneuro dry system Sigma Q machine, & now after just one session myself I cannot believe the difference.

The pain has retreated & the freedom of movement is so improved. I will be recommending you to my family & friends.

Steve, I would just like take this time to say a very big thank you for your help

Normal Service Resumed at Blofield Church Norwich, with the help of Steve Kirby, Getfitstayfit Norfolk

Blofield Church Norwich

Paul had ruptured one of his major  Hip Flexors muscles, causing his back to Spasm

Here in Blofield we have a beautiful  church  in St Andrew & St Peter

We also have a great Rector in Paul Cubbit , Paul is a very involved Rector,  when he is not out and about looking after our local community, he may be found parachuting out of planes to help raise money for our heating for the church, or moving pews or other heavy items around, to help the workmen while they were installing the heating.

So you can imagine it was of great concern when Paul called us after one such occasion to say he needed urgent  help as he had injured his back on 8th November. As he had an important funeral on the Friday, a Wedding on the Saturday and on the Sunday it was the Remembrance service. What Paul had done, was rupture one of his major  Hip Flexors muscles, causing his back to Spasm and for him to be in debilitating pain.

His muscles had contracted, so we needed to get them back to being supple and flexible again.  By using Neuromuscular Tension Release therapy, Massage and the aid of the Bioneuro to get into the deep stubborn  constricted areas ,we then improved the problem greatly . We were so pleased to be able to help Paul get back on with his extremely busy life caring for others, On the Friday he was feeling a lot better and Sunday Service was resumed as normal . Paul was even happier the following Sunday, when on Saturday Norwich had won against Manchester United, which is when the photo was taken as for the heating, well we now have a warm church which is great.
